Feature description : Softphone service allows you to make and receive calls using your PC/laptop from anywhere in the world. Telehop’s Softphone for Home users has been designed to augment your existing Home Phone service allowing you to make and receive calls from your home phone and a PC or laptop. All you need to do is to plug your PC into high speed internet. With your PC headset and microphone, start making and receiving the calls. Call your family and friends anywhere in the world at the same low long distance rates of your plan. Softphone for Home users uses the same phone number as your Home Phone number to make and receive calls, therefore, if you are travelling, you will not be able to call home. For those With the Travelers version of the Softphone, you will receive another telephone number making it easy to distinguish you from your main Home Phone number.

How to use the feature?
Upon purchase of this feature, you will be sent an email with download and installation instructions. Softphone is relatively easy to install and use.

Softphone for Home users uses the same phone number as your Home Phone number to make and receive calls. Although you can technically use this service from anywhere in the world, there are a few important things to consider:

  1. During an emergency, if you call 911 from outside of your home, the 911 dispatcher will not know your physical location. It is imperative that you provide the full address of your physical location, otherwise, emergency services will be dispatched to you home address.
  2. As this Softphone is linked to your main Home Phone number, you will not be able to call home. In fact, both your home phone and the Softphone on your PC/laptop will ring for all incoming calls with no priority assigned to your Softphone. To get priority to your Softphone, you should consider Softphone for Travellers.
